The act of denying oneself the study of receiving God's testimony for righteous and holy living, or attempting to read into God's ordained Word humanistically-approved, worldly-acclaimed, deceptive-practices most often lead to the same untoward ways; but not Godly-Wise in anything that should, could or would be called intellectually and accountability honest. Thus, not being led by Christ can lead one to being anfractuous meaning: "full of twists, turns, and windings; roundabout; tortuous" ... as in Sam Walter Foss' poem, The Calf Path.
Prayerful study of God's Word for oneself is in itself the highest form of worship! "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15. Notice this verse is written with the singular pronoun, thyself, and is not necessarily saying to study denominations, religious promptings, comparative religions, et cetera, to be beneficial of receiving more of Christ Jesus (His Way, Truth and Life).
To worship in Spirit and Truth is "a responsive, positive conditioning of the soul" to the Gospel of Christ Jesus; and not "a location-reaction negation to what others say and do otherwisedly," deeming all that is said and done as truth, when the negations amount to nothing more than a blinded faith of presumption.
God's straightforward, steadfast purpose in all His dealings with us is to give instruction - not destruction - for His people ... as His Word further says: "The entrance of Thy Words giveth Light; it giveth understanding unto the simple" (Psalm 119:130).
